Thanks Brother maybe a new band, but both Roisin and John are successful seasoned artists in their own right. They have played together, writing songs since 2014, originally for follow-up singles to Roisin’s solo album, ‘The Secret Life of Blue’ and their undeniable creative chemistry when writing, encouraged them to embark on a collaborative project which became Thanks Brother at the beginning of 2018.
The band was created and they were trying to come up with a name when one night, they met one of their screen heroes, actor Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones, Three Billboards), whose brief response to a gushing Broe's praise was simply, ‘Thanks Brother’. And that was is, how Thanks Brother became their new band.
Róisín O grew up surrounded by music in her family so it seems inevitable that this is the path she would choose to take. In her solo career, she recorded and released her first album the Secret Life of Blue on Sept 21st 2012 and since then she gained a strong following around Ireland, playing headline gigs and festivals. She released two follow up singles after the album, Synchronicity and If You Got Love in 2015 that signaled a change in direction, stepping away from the more acoustic original sound towards from more electric, more synths as she started to write and work with John Broe. This change in direction is what led them both their current project in Thanks Brother.
Making her impact in the Irish Music scene, Róisín performed at J.J. Abrams' annual Oscar Wilde party in Hollywood the night before the Oscar Academy Awards this February 2016 along side Snow Patrol and James Corden who was recognised as an honoury Irishman for the night.
John Broe, formerly the writer and singer with Irish band Miracle Bell, began writing songs with Róisín in 2014. As well as writing with Róisín, they both have co-written songs with the Coronas, including their latest single Find The Water. John artistic creativity branches into video creation too and he has co-directed and produced the video to Glen Hansard poignant song, ‘Time Will Be The Healer' which they filmed in Clifden on the West Coast of Ireland and directed by Dara Munnis and John. More recently, the directed the video for ‘Find The Water' as well as the videos for Thanks Brother.
